Tech capability in stores isn't a nice-to-have—it's foundational to competitive success. Retailers must decide upfront which business challenges warrant in-store technology solutions, then architect the organization around maintaining and operating those systems at a tech-company standard.
Deploying store innovations (digital signage, Wi-Fi, AI-driven experiences) creates organizational debt. You cannot bolt technology onto a traditionally structured retail operation; you need to rebuild internal capabilities and accountabilities to support continuous store-tech evolution.
The decision of where to solve business problems—at the enterprise layer or in-store layer—determines both ROI and operational complexity. CMOs and CDOs must align with technology leadership before committing to store-level innovation rollouts.

Do you want to have the same capability as a tech company in the stores? You have to decide where are my business challenges and on what layer should I solve them? If we're going to provide new experience, if you get a signage or Wi-Fi or other solutions for the customers. If we're to provide all this kind of innovation, you have to also create an organization which is built for that.
